ABOUT MY FIRST DAY RECOVERY

My First Day Recovery was founded on a simple belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to build a better future.

We develop trauma-informed, evidence-informed recovery education and reentry curriculum designed to help individuals understand addiction, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen decision-making, and prepare for successful reintegration into their communities.

Our programs emphasize practical learning, personal growth, accountability, and the belief that meaningful change begins with one decision, one opportunity, and one first day.

MEET THE FOUNDER

My First Day Recovery was founded by Felicia Potts, a behavioral science professional and substance use counselor dedicated to making recovery education more practical, accessible, and meaningful.

Felicia holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Applied Behavioral Science from the University of Arizona Global Campus. She also holds the Missouri Associate Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (MAADC II) credential. Her professional background includes substance use counseling in a correctional setting, group facilitation, individualized recovery planning, and the development of structured educational materials.

Through her experience working with justice-involved individuals, she recognized the need for recovery education that goes beyond raditional worksheet-based instruction—education that addresses trauma, unhealthy thinking patterns, emotional regulation, institutionalization and the realities of returning to society.

This vision led to the development of My First Day Recovery, a trauma-informed, evidence-informed educational program designed to help individuals build the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed for meaningful change.

OUR EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

My First Day Recovery combines trauma-informed principles with evidence-informed educational strategies to create practical, engaging recovery and reentry curriculum.

Our programs incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-informed learning, Motivational Interviewing principles, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)-informed coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, and strengths-based approaches.

Through real-world scenarios, guided reflection and practical skill-building, participants develop tools to navigate challenges, make healthier decisions, and prepare for life beyond incarceration.

Our curriculum is designed to complement professional treatment services while supporting individual learning, personal growth and long-term recovery goals.
